A voice is a human gift; it should be cherished and used, to utter fully human speech as possible. Powerlessness and silence go together.-Margaret Atwood

I really dislike public speaking.

But anyways, I thought I would do a final blog on the overall course. This course has not been what I expected; in particular, I expected it to be like other English courses in which we are given a list of novels to read and we write essays on it. This course was very different; in particular, I had never used a blog before (nor followed blogs), so writing a blog was difficult for me.

I'm glad this course made me commit to finally reading a novel by Margaret Atwood. I had been procrastinating and I wanted to read one of her novels for a long time and this course allowed me to do so.

Although I enjoyed this course, I felt at times it was hard to know exactly what we were expected to do for assignments. I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing, because I understand it was meant to remove some boundaries and give us room to work. Perhaps it just wasn't what I was used do.

Once I found a beautiful camera phone, lying on the sidewalk. It was muddy...but I took it
anyway, and the Eves caught me with it. "Don't you know any better?" they said.
Such a thing can hurt you! It can burn your brain! Don't even look at it:  if you
can see it, it can see you"

Shouldn't be too curious.

I watched the movie Splice a while ago. It reminded of the "beautiful human gene splice" that was brought up in the book..or maybe the blue people reminded me of Avatar.

So, we've decided to brainstorm ideas over the weekend for our presentation. I was browsing and looking up new animal splices. The things I found were so strange! It actually creeps me out to see all the possible 'things' people are capable of putting together.

After seeing the documentary to Shake Hands with the Devil, I wanted to mention a book by Philip Gourevitch's We Wish to Inform You that Tomorrow We Will Be Killed with our Families. It tells the stories of the genocides in Rwanda and I feel that the title of the book speaks loudly about the genocide.

After hearing about the new monument that will be put up by BC Place, I thought about how The Year of The Flood mentioned Terry Fox as a Saint. Kayla's blog mentioned this already in her blog =)
